Welcome!
We all have events in our lives that can cause us to be depressed, anxious, unsettled or simply unsatisfied. This might involve uncertainty or conflict in relationships, unhelpful thinking and life patterns, loss or trauma, unfulfilling careers or difficulty making decisions and reaching goals. Any number of life issues can affect the quality of day-to-day experiences.
Therapy involves working with a clinician who is trained to help you understand challenges and assist you in finding the resolutions that work best for you. Talking with a therapist in a safe, accepting environment allows you to explore patterns and feelings which can ultimately provide a greater understanding of what's going on. This understanding allows you to make conscious choices to live a happier, more fulfilling life.
I strongly believe in our ability to change and create happier and healthier relationships with ourselves and others. Strengthening positive qualities while learning new skills and ways of understanding problems provides people with more control over their lives and happiness.
My training has been varied and I use a wide range of approaches that are tailored to best address your preferences and concerns. I work largely from a relational model that emphasizes the importance of relationships and how early experiences along with culture, development, social and family backgrounds all contribute to how we function. Depending on the issue, I may also help clients learn cognitive behavioral techniques to address symptoms while working to understand the origins of the problem.
Some concerns can be addressed in a few sessions while others may be best addressed by longer-term therapy. We can discuss which approaches and time frames may be most helpful to you as you start this journey.
My personal style is one of warmth, acceptance, humor and connection. I strive to provide an environment that is calm and safe for clients to explore concerns at their own pace.
